Nail Technician
- 450 Hours

Shampoo and Style Services
- 300 Hours
- A diploma or certified testing documents proving grade 12 equivalency education
- Be at least eighteen (18) years of age
- Successfully complete a written and practical examination

Apprentice Instructor
- 750 Hours
- A diploma or certified testing documents proving grade 12 equivalency education
- Required to hold a current license as a Cosmetologist, Esthetician or Nail Technician for a minimum of one (1) year
- An Apprentice Instructor license application must be completed by the attending school and submitted to KBC with the required fee within 10 days of enrollment.
- Upon completion of the 750 hours, applicants may apply for the instructor examination, written and practical.
- Receive license verification or license prior to returning to an educational institute.
The process does not require Board approval. If applicants meet all requirements, license is issued. One must complete 750 hours as defined in 201 KAR 12:082. Section 15.
Photo Requirements
- A photo of yourself taken within the past six (6) months
- Stand facing forward
- Capture the shoulders up
- Use a solid white or light blue background
- DO NOT USE AI-GENERATED IMAGES as these are not permitted.
- Please note what is NOT accepted. Photos that include your spouse, friends, family or pets, car-selfies, or photos that are too dark/bright/blurry that make features indistinguishable.
It is important to regularly check your emails for deficiency notices to ensure compliance and timely processing of your license.
An application submitted that does not meet the printing requirements will be sent a deficiency notice by email, you will have 10 days to make corrections before the application is closed.
